Jack White jumps in as last minute 'SNL' musical guest

It had to be 'somebody who is ready to go'

A last-minute musical guest has stepped in to fill the empty slot on this weekend's Saturday Night Live broadcast after country singer Morgan Wallen was removed after breaking the show's social distance protocols.

Jack White of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs became this weekend's "Johnny on the spot" just a day after Wallen's cancelation was announced.

SNL boss Lorne Michaels explained that he needed to move quickly to fill the spot on Saturday, and admitted it had to be "somebody who is ready to go.” And if Jack is anything at all, he's always ready to go.

White's last appearance was back in 2018 to promote his most recent solo album, Boarding House Reach and has performed on the show three times before, solo and with Meg White.

Luckily Jack has something to promote this time around as well. The White Stripes will release their first-ever greatest-hits compilation in December, just in time for a candy-striped Christmas.
