Linkin Park Unleash 'Hybrid Theory' Throwback Merch That We Need Immediately

A retro style that speaks to the band's unique sound

Linkin Park is reaching back into the annals of time to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of their debut album Hybrid Theory.

The group is offering fans exclusive merchandise based around the album’s lead single “One Step Closer.” Artwork from the track appears on various forms of swag including t-shirts, hoodies, hats and key chains. Abstract shapes splatter the apparel, hearkening back to the loud and unpredictable style that defined the band’s sound back in the year 2000. It’s a fitting design for an album that sold more than 10 million copies

Take a look at Linkin Park’s website design and you’ll notice a retro aesthetic. Visions of Windows 95 desktop displays take users back to the first interactions of personal computing. There are even social media tabs on the dated taskbar.

“I would urge the fanbase to just let it happen,” guitarist Mike Shinoda told Kerrang! back in July. “The Linkin Park fan base is always one of the most creative and active fan bases out there. So always, the problem for me is that if I’m not allowed to divulge information because I want it to be a surprise, then the creative fan base starts jumping out and imagining things. They come up with their own great ideas – and then once in a while those great ideas are better than our ideas!”

Shinoda has been staying busy during the coronavirus quarantine, hosting near-daily livestreams during which he creates a new piece of music on the spot. He used those interactions with fans as inspiration for his latest solo effort, Dropped Frames: Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.
