Of Monsters and Men Take Us Inside 'Fever Dream'

The band from Iceland is ready to release their first album in 4 years

July 23, 2019

It’s been four years since Of Monsters and Men released their second studio album Beneath the Skin, and when it was time to get back in the studio to craft a follow-up, the band from Iceland knew it.

“It was a natural development,” guitarist Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson told RADIO.COM. “We had just been writing for a long time and we felt like we had enough.”

The results will be realized on Friday when Fever Dream is finally unveiled. Both Raggi and singer Nanna Brandis Hilmarsdóttir agree that the hard-charging “Alligator” is the track that holds the whole thing together.

“It came very early in the writing process,” Nanna explained. “It immediately just felt like something we wanted to explore because it was exciting. I guess that’s a lot of what we were searching for at that time, and we just wanted something new and exciting and it was challenging us.”

Raggi says Of Monsters and Men built on the vibe of “Alligator,” which is the lead single from Fever Dream and a RADIO.COM World Premiere, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the songs have a conscious theme.

“We weren’t too focused on bringing them too much together because that’s kind of what happens anyways, so if a song wanted to be something, we kind of went with it,” he said.

Of Monsters and Men, who are always willing to talk about their appearance on “Game of Thrones,” will begin a North American tour on August 2 in Los Angeles. The trek will stretch into the end of September in Vancouver, before they rest up for the European leg. Check out the full list of dates here.
