Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne both love this YUNGBLUD mashup

The U.K. rocker somehow weaves pop and punk into a classical melody

Taylor Swift says YUNGBLUD’s recent mashup of her smash hit “Cardiagan” with an Avril Lavigne classic “took my breath away.”

The pop sensation tweeted a clip of the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance with words of encouragement for the young artist. “WELL this took my breath away and I’m honored to hear Cardigan intertwined with the wonderful @AvrilLavigne’s masterpiece ‘I’m with you,’” she exclaimed. “Bravo and thanks @yungblud!! 👏👏🙏🙏”

YUNGBLUD’s interpretation utilizes a trio of classical stringed instruments to create an astute and beautiful cacophony. The performance begins with “Cardigan,” then casually shifts to Lavigne’s classic 2002 track “I’m With You.”

Avril even took notice, commenting on the artist’s Instagram post of the performance, “Epic. Love it. 🔥”

Collaborations are part of YUNGBLUD’s sound. He’s mixed artists like Travis Barker, Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons, and blackbear. During a May RADIO.COM Check In, the artist said his latest single “Weird!” was a timely anthem for a chaotic year. “I wrote the song about the weirdest time in my life ever imagined,” he explains.

“I felt like the ground beneath me was a maze that was shape shifting and I felt like I was going to fall down the cracks and, in my opinion, the world feels exactly like that right now. I wanted this song to make everyone feel that everything was going to be alright no matter how weird things get.”

It’s been a busy year for the up and coming U.K. rocker. H recently announced a digital tour during which he'll play a livestreamed, full-scale production concert throughout November and December.
