I don't know why I love covers so much. I guess it's just fun to hear a fresh take on an old song or a "new-ish" song from a favorite band? Whatever it is, hopefully I'm not alone because I've compiled a list of the best cover songs from the alternative and indie genres. And when I say "best cover songs", I mean my picks for the best. If you have a good cover that isn't on here, let me know!

Muse covering The Animals

Nirvana covering David Bowie

Ra Ra Riot covering Kate Bush

Sinead O'Connor covering Prince/The Family

Sturgill Simpson covering Nirvana

Ryan Adams covering Oasis

Japanese Breakfast covering The Mamas & The Papas

Gary Jules covering Tears for Fears

Fiona Apple covering The Beatles

Courtney Barnett covering INXS

Cake covering Gloria Gaynor

Father John Misty covering Arcade Fire

The National covering The Grateful Dead

Best Coast covering Fleetwood Mac

The Talking Heads covering Al Green

OMG THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD COVERS! See what I'm talking about? They're the best. This is only a handful of them all, obviously... and I swear The Arctic Monkeys covered Father John Misty once, but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the internet. ANYWAY, may your favorite band cover your other favorite band sometime in your life. It's awesome.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah, Johnny Cash - Hurt, and Warpaint's amazing version of David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes".
